Background/Mission
Sela PCS was created to help tackle educational inequity, racial segregation and cultural isolation - to create a place where students would be celebrated as they begin their global citizenship journey. Sela is a dual language Hebrew and English school that proudly serves and educates 300+ PreK-3 - 5th grade students in Washington, DC.
Mission: Sela PCS offers children of all ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds in the District of Columbia, from Pre-K to 5th grade, the opportunity to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing environment that focuses on dual-language instruction in English and Hebrew, promotes the value of diversity and provides skills for engaging with the world.
The Opportunity
The In-House Substitute will assist in covering key positions that vary daily. This position contributes to overall school culture by ensuring that Sela's values are present in every class every day.
Job Responsibilities
- Implement the curriculum and utilizing classroom routines and procedures with consistency;
- Develop lesson plans as needed;
- Communicate high expectations and standards for all students
- Develop relationships with students and their families, including phone calls and conferences;
- Cover lunch, recess and break duties as needed
Successful candidates will possess the following qualifications:
- High school diploma required; Associates degree or higher degree preferred
- Experience working with elementary and middle school students preferred
- Commitment to educating students for academic achievement
- Belief in the capacity of every student for high academic achievement
- Ability to accept feedback and make changes and commitment to constant improvement
Job Information
- This is a 40-hour, 10-month, non-exempt full-time position. The hours are from 7:45 am to 3:45 pm with one 30-minute break.
- This position reports to the Senior Director, Operations, Finance and Development.
- This position has a salary range of $39,000 - $49,000.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
